Join us for our First Friday Community Class on June 5th from 6:30–7:30 PM featuring interdisciplinary performance artist Riley McCallum.
Originally from rural Texas, Riley McCallum has a broad background of movement experiences ranging from martial arts, musical theatre, and color guard to concert and street dance forms. He has appeared in musicals, ballets, music videos, and concert dance performances throughout Texas and Louisiana. When he’s not battling at vogue dance functions, he is an adjunct professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Intro to Vogue Fem is a drop-in class focused on introducing the five elements of vogue fem while exploring the cultural context of the form. Throughout class, participants will learn drills and movement exercises centered around catwalk, duckwalk, hands performance, floor performance, and spins and dips.
Dancers will also have opportunities for improvisation, allowing them to incorporate the movement into their own personal style of vogue. The class will conclude with an open practice space designed to spotlight and encourage each participant.
Knee pads are recommended.
